Ningkun Wang, Director of Tax, Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners


Ningkun Wang is the Director of Tax with Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners, one of the world’s largest publicly traded, pure-play renewable power platforms. She leads income tax financial reporting and M&A tax due diligence efforts for the North American region.

Prior to Brookfield, Ningkun was a senior tax manager with Deloitte Tax. She advised clients in a variety of industries including technology, pharmaceuticals, retailing, and manufacturing. Prior to coming to the U.S., Ningkun was the Director of Finance with Bertelsmann Shanghai where she was in charge of accounting, financial analysis and tax reporting.

Ms. Wang has a Master of Accounting from Colorado State University and a Master of Science in Business Administration from Fudan University in Shanghai.

Xiaofeng (Frank) Xiao, VP and Quantitative Analyst, CFA, Wellington Management (head shot attached)

As a quantitative analyst in the Quantitative Research Group, Frank is responsible for researching investment strategies at the stock and sector level and communicating research results to investment personnel and clients of the firm.

Prior to joining Wellington Management in 2007, Frank worked with the Quantitative Investment Group as an intern during the summer of 2006. He was one of three founding members of an Internet services company in China called Xunlei Network Technology Co. (2003 – 2004), and he was also a software engineer at Oracle (2002 – 2004).

Frank earned his MS in computational finance from Carnegie Mellon University (2006). He also holds an MS in mathematics from Emory University (2005), an MS in applied mathematics for Peking University (2002), and a BS in mathematics from Wuhan University (1999). Additionally, he holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Wen (Vivian) Liu, CFA, Director and Senior Portfolio Analyst , MetLife

Ms. Liu is a Director & Senior Portfolio Analyst in the Investment Research & Analysis Group at MetLife.  She is responsible for investment oversight, manager selection and both quantitative and qualitative analysis of MetLife investment portfolios with a primary focus on asset allocation strategies and portfolio construction.  Prior to joining MetLife, Ms. Liu spent thirteen years with Bank of New York Mellon Investment Management (“BNYMIM”) in the manager research, due diligence, and portfolio analysis functions.  Her responsibilities included evaluating BNYMIM’s subsidiary investment products on soundness of investment philosophy, process, implementation, performance, and risk; acting as an internal resource to the mutual fund board, senior management, and distribution channels within BNYMIM.

Ms. Liu holds a Masters in International Economics and Finance and a B.S. in Economics from Brandeis University. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society and the CFA Institute.

Daryl Luk, Director of Technology Development, ConcentricABM

Daryl Luk is Director of Technology Development of ConcentricABM, a software provider for predictive marketing analystics solution. Prior to that, Daryl was Software Engineering Manager in SensAble Technologies that offers 3D free form modeling solutions to various industries. He was responsible for product development, release management, process improvement, as well as 3rd party software integration. Before that, he was Director of Applications Development in PTC (wwwNaNc.com), formally known as Parametric Technology Corp, one of the largest software companies in Massachusetts, USA. With more than 18 years of enterprise and engineering software development and management experiences, Daryl had been in charge of building new development team in Shanghai, managed 7 new commercial software products development in PTC‘s product family that generates US$1B in annual revenue.

Coming from Hong Kong, Daryl holds a Mechanical Engineering Bachelor‘s degree from Taiwan National Chung Kung University and a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University focused on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Daryl has published several robotics technical papers in international journals.

Daryl is a board member of NECINA. He was also the organization’s President in 2009-2010 and 2005-2006. Prior to that, he served as Vice President in 2004-2005 and the chair of both NECINA eBusiness Special Interest Group and RFID Action Group.  In 2006, Daryl was appointed by the Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to be a member of the Massachusetts Asian American Commission to advise the Governor on matters related to Asian American affairs. Currently Daryl serves as a member in the Asian American Commission‘s Economic Development Committee and advisory member for startup Mandarin Globe.

Ben Tao, Senior Director, Corporate Development, PTC

Ben Tao is currently Senior Director of Corporate Development at PTC. In that role, he works closely with Corporate and Segment business leadership teams in formulating acquisition strategies. He worked on a significant number of M&A transactions, especially in the field of Internet of Things, helping transform PTC’s business.  Prior to PTC, he worked as a management consultant for six years, advising clients on a broad range of strategic and management challenges across multiple industries such as high tech, retail, chemical, and private equity. Before starting his career as a management consultant, he worked as a technologist for several leading technology companies including Oracle, Microsoft, and Ericsson.

Ben served as NECINA’s Pesident during the 2014-2015 operating year.  Ben received a BS degree in Computer Sciences from Beijing University and an MS degree in Computer Sciences from University of Wisconsin at Madison. He also holds an MBA degree from Babson College.

Greg Scherzo, Senior Recruiter, Netbrain Technology

Greg is a Senior Recruiter with Netbrain Technology.  He is equipped with ten years of full life-cycle recruiting experience focusing on sales and technology.  Previously, Greg was Head of Talent Acquisition, Corporate Recruiter and Senior Recruiter with multiple corporations and agencies.  In his previous roles, he identified candidates, screened candidates, conducted reference and background checks, developed technical skills screening checklist to assess knowledge base of potential candidates.   He also negotiated compensation packages on behalf of client companies to find the "middle ground" with candidates.  In addition, he mentored and trained junior staff members, researched new and uncommon technologies to gain understanding of diverse technical requirements.  Greg obtained a BA in Psychology from Roger Williams University.

Ru Zheng is a natural relationship builder and enjoys bringing out the best of others. As a certified Dale Carnegie Trainer with over 10 years of training experience, she is passionate about communication and leadership training, team building and executive coaching.  As a Sr. Business Intelligence manager in a Global Fortune 500 company, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Corporation, Ru oversees a global sales analytics team for the company’s Lab Product Group, a 1.6 billion dollar division. Sharon Pei, World Languages and Global Studies Librarian, Phillips Academy

Ms. Pei’s career primarily engages in information technology management in the library setting.  She is teaching information literacy in the areas of information search, retrieval in various electronic and printed formats as well as ways to evaluate the information retrieved with a critical thinking approach.  Ms. Pei’s current work with Phillips Academy, one of the best private schools in the U.S involves providing information and research services to the students, faculty as well as the Andover community at large.  She also coordinates with the International students’ office to outreach the international students to ensure their first year of boarding school life a successful one.  Ms. Pei actively supports the students and faculty coming to Andover from many other states of the U.S. and around the world during each summer session. 

Ms. Pei has been a culture events team leader with NECINA for the past few years.  She practices Tai Chi and taught Chinese in Acton Chinese School.  She has an MLS degree in college of information studies from University of Maryland, College Park.

John Silva, Tufts Health Ventures, Tufts Health Plan

John Silva is an entrepreneur and investor with international leadership experience in emerging markets and emerging technology, focused on lifesaving solutions.  He is a founding executive at Tufts Health Ventures, the corporate ventures division of Tufts Health Plan.  He executes strategic investments, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate development.

Previously, Mr. Silva worked with ReMed Life Sciences, developing regenerative medicine therapeutics for autoimmune diseases and iRobot Corporation, developing new life-saving robotic solutions. Prior to that, he worked in economic development with international organizations such as Aga Khan Development Network and Millhouse Capital.  He founded Cambridge Executive Academy, acquired by Global Novations, and InnoPolicy, an enterprise software platform which was also acquired. 

Mr. Silva served in the US Marine Corps as a US Secret Service Attaché at The White House, serving on 25+ international missions in support of the President of the United States, and was awarded the Presidential Service Badge.  He completed his bachelor's degree with honors in Classics from Harvard University.
